About This Cemetery

The Farband Cemetery in Morris is the only JCAGW-managed cemetery located outside of Waterbury. It was established by the Farband — the Jewish National Workers Alliance — a Labor Zionist fraternal organization that was active throughout the early and mid twentieth century. The Farband combined Zionist ideals with labor movement values, and its members were often secular or progressive in their religious outlook. This is reflected in the cemetery's more inclusive burial policies: cremated remains are permitted, and non-Jewish spouses may be interred alongside their partners. The Morris location offered a peaceful, rural setting for a community that valued both Jewish identity and a broad, humanistic approach to burial.
