Brass City Lodge
Founded Early 20th century · Brass City Lodge (B'nai B'rith)
244 Stillson Road, Waterbury, CTAbout This Cemetery
Brass City Lodge Cemetery was established by the Brass City Lodge, a local chapter of B'nai B'rith, one of the oldest and most prominent Jewish fraternal organizations in the United States. Waterbury earned the nickname "Brass City" for its dominant brass manufacturing industry, and the Jewish community that settled here in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries formed their own lodge to provide mutual aid, fellowship, and burial services for members. This cemetery follows Orthodox burial traditions, including taharah — the ritual washing and preparation of the deceased — reflecting the traditional practices of its founding membership.
